The power of the iclicker - feel it!

Primary Presenter: Eric Howell with the support of i>Clicker's Dustin Jensen

Organization: Red Rocks Community College

Role: Anatomy and Physiology Instructor

Track: Demonstration with some hands-on

Level: For Mere Mortals

Abstract: Have you wondered about using iclickers or clicker technology in general? Come see them in use and participate with your own iclicker. This presentation is supported by a year of clicker use in Anatomy and Physiology classes and student feedback and data will be provided to show the power of these devices from both the instructor and student perspective.

Bio: Eric is currently an Adjunct Instructor of Anatomy and Physiology for Red Rocks Community College as well as a web developer for the University of Colorado Denver. In addition to these positions Eric has also worked as a guest lecturer for the University of Colorado Boulder in Anatomy and has had his neurologic dissections published in the latest addition of Pearson's interactive Practice Anatomy Lab 3.0 (PAL) which ships with every anatomy and physiology text book that Pearson produces. Eric has used technology in the classroom to assist in conveying the technical and specific messages associated with anatomy and physiology and in 2011 he was the recipient of a teaching grant to explore the use of iclickers in the classroom. One year later brings this Adjunct Faculty of the year for 2010 to a series of findings and insights that he finds quite interesting. The use of technology in the classroom has always been of interest to Eric and his training in the arts and sciences has made an interesting atmosphere that his students enjoy.

Description: iclickers are changing the classroom landscape and allowing students who may have previously not participated in conversations or questions posed to classes to participate. These devices simply and effectively give the instructor and class immediate feedback in terms of the class position on topics. Easily deployed over various disciplines, iclicker technology is a must have for every class.
