Abstract: A PhD Student and an Instructional Designer present what they have learned about engaging students in the online classroom. They will demonstrate free technology tools, such as Goose Chase, TED-Ed, Voki’s, PollEverywhere, FaceTime and more including web and mobile apps, and share students’ perspectives about what truly engages them. They’ll also share how these free tools can be easily implemented into an online class and how they truly reach students.
Bio: Cody Connor is an Instructional Technology Educational Specialist at the University of Wyoming Outreach School. He works with instructional designers and UW instructors in the design and implementation of distance courses. He has a strong passion for using technology and helping others utilize technology to improve their lives.

A PhD Student and an Instructional Designer present what they have learned about engaging students in the online classroom. They’ll demonstrate free technology tools, including web and mobile apps, and share students’ perspectives about what truly engages them. They’ll also share how these free tools can be easily implemented into an online class and how they truly reach students.
From their student perspective, Athena and Cody will share how
peer-to-peer online interaction including academic social networking, podcasting, polling, video calling, and mobile apps lead to higher engagement and community building among online students. Exciting educational technologies such as Goose Chase, TED-Ed, Voki’s, PollEverywhere, FaceTime and more will be demonstrated. Participants will leave this session empowered to integrate some of these new technologies into their classrooms.
